2020 - Close Encounters...

2020 is fast becoming the year of online teaching and learning.

In ensuing posts, there are challenges for those students who need some creative escape...

for these teachers desperately trying to ignite student appeal and focus...

Here is a clip from the movie 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' (1977).
The movie became a classic mainly because of this scene, in particular the music in this scene.

1. Explain how and why the main 5 musical notes played sound like communication. Then explain what is happening next with the sounds.

exploring ancient myths and legends...

They have the opportunity of doing extension work ...

This is an appeal to the struggling and striving stakeholders of this planet:
This floating rock we call Earth

Alas, that means you


That means:
Everyone of your acquaintance
Every figure your eyes skim past in the street
Every charlatan still to defeat
Every tender face you find solace in
Now mimic the mindset William Wallace was in

Dismount - disembark - descend from your existance
Slacken your angst and decant your hate
'Cos in the long run they're about as useful
As pouring acid onto your dinner plate

To muzzled masses that lead lives of deafening desperation:
With Excalibur aloft King Arthur earned the throne
But it's our minds we got to wrench out of the stone

Don't be fooled by its simplicity
There was never a broadcat made of such urgency
'Cos at no time before us
Did we grasp the scope of this emergency?

Ladle out love and logic by the boatload
Equipped with that cargo you can take any road
Now grab life; seize time

Regan Bayliss rides on...

Regan is a past student of Casey Grammar School...

He left the school in Year 10 to pursue a jockey career...his passion...

He has had many successes, even while still an apprentice...

And yesterday, the Herald Sun revealed that he continued his studies with the Certificate of Applied Learning...

Regan shared the honours with Jye McNeil at the top of the 2013/14 Rising Stars Series; 

he rode 37 winners.

So far, in his 2014/15 season, he has had 20 winners...

Recently, on October 18, he rode as the only apprentice 
in the prestigious Caulfield Cup - Race 9.
This cup pre-empts the final Melbourne Cup...highlight of the Spring Racing Carnival...
He rode Renew and was placed 16th out of a field of 18 top horses...
An amazing effort...

Winter Writers' Festival...

The inaugural Winter Writers' Destival was held at Casey Grammar School
on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th August.


It was all beautifully orchestrated by Ms Mandy Horton.


Students from primary to secondary levels were able to meet a writer or two over the two days.
Book signing was encouraged.


Writers included:

Emilie Zoey Baker - poet and slam champion.


James Phelan - author of 21 novels

Demet Divaroren - Melbourne-based writer of long and short fiction and non-fiction


Danny Katz - Canadian born author and newspaper columnist - including The Age.

Stig Wemyss - narrator of audio books for children and young adults


Ellie Marney - teacher and YA author who specialises in crime

Gemma Wiseman - poet, writer and photographer who maintains 37 blogs

a piece of Melbourne's musical history...

Today, there was an historic photo shoot on parliament steps of Melbourne's 4 currently running musicals.

The Rocky Horror Show opened April 26 at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne and closes July 13.

penned these thoughts in Melbourne today...


Just walking through the city eating an icecream, strolling through the crowds. 
You glance up once or twice to see those quick glimpses of a mother running her hand accross her baby's hair, wide eye and smiling friends as they reunite, the couple running their thumbs as they hold hands. 
The kid fascinated by everything ontop her father's shoulders, the young girl on the bench who can read in peace. 
We see these things too quickly at a glance as we walk past for our minor goals in walking past them. 
The girl's smirk when she knows she's happy with the way she's dressed tonight. 
The guy who tucks a flower into his jacket pocket. 
The grandfather cradling his cherished legacy. 
The busker who will die for the dream. 
It's a bit overwhelming to know that many people died defending this. 
And listening to some Sigur Ros probably has something to do with this status making an ever wanky background soundtrack to my glimpses at life. 
But all that aside. 
We are all gifted. 
And I hope everyone can take at least a piece of that gift and make sure that we can all enjoy it.
